    The questions were something along the lines of Death and afterlife: critically discussing the different views/interpretations of what heaven is like Pluralism and society: “Christian communities have successfully responded to the challenge of encounters with other faiths” discuss. And moral principles (I think?): “agape (love) is the only sufficient source of Christian ethics” discuss. The last one was liberation theology which I don’t remember as I didn’t do that, but again, pretty accurate predictions!

Is it also ok just to make two points but spilt it into two paragraphs with description and strengths on one and criticisms and defences on the other, so four paragraphs overall, my teacher said that was fine.

    Hello Miss, when it says 'Critically asses how Christian communities have responded to the challenge of encounters with other faiths", is this in reference/linked to the bullet point on the spec of 'whether or not Christian communities should seek to convert people from other faiths', obviously referencing the redemptoris missio)? Im not 100% sure how to structure this question, would you just do a paragraph on that Christians should seek to bring people to the Christian faith through inter-faith dialogues, then a paragraphs that they shouldn't etc? Thank you so much for all your help over the past few weeks :)

    • @IThinkThereforeITeach
      @IThinkThereforeITeach 13 днів тому

      You could talk about conversion but the question is asking what the challenges might be and how Christianity has overcome them e.g SRM or interfaith dialogue etc. For questions such as these you have to adapt the material you have covered in that topic (as you said Redemptoris Missio) to fit the question. Hope this helps:)

    Also, you make a great point about the Gospel writers' perspectives. If i was making a point about how they should be understood as embellished, would i be able to create a link to Augustine's acknowledgement that the bible contains 'human phrases'. Thus, in Mark's account that Jesus 'walked on water' could it just be a human phrase as he might not have literally defied laws of physics but it's just a manner of expression that could be best understood by humans.

    If the question was something like 'Christianity should be changed, not abandoned' as you predicted, would it work to focus the essay on Ruether and only bring Daly in as a counter-argument (so in less detail - e.g. mentioning the unholy trinity but not properly getting into it)?

    • @IThinkThereforeITeach
      @IThinkThereforeITeach 13 днів тому

      That would work great, especially as 'changed' is the first part of the question so structuring with Reuther makes sense whilst bringing Daly in as a counter argument - this structure supports the structure of the question :)

    Hi miss, for the utilitarianism question on the ethics paper yesterday my line of argument was that yes - utilitarians do believe profit making is the most important feature of businesses because it conforms to the principle of utility (everyone including business owners, customers and employees win) and i evaluated by using different approaches such as kantian ethics who argue this has led more exploitation due to globalisation and has distracted attention away from i.e corporate social responsibility which is arguably more important) is this okay to write? i felt like that was the only question i found really difficult on the paper

    Hi, I was looking at the specification and there is a question on whether or not God's judgement takes place after death or at the end of time. How would you suggest approaching this? Thanks

    • @Daffiestchip716
      @Daffiestchip716 14 днів тому

      The argument that God’s judgement takes place after death immediately, may be persuasive considering certain language used in the New Testament and in parables told by Christ Jesus. In this essay, I shall discuss the logistics of “The rich man and lazarus” and biblical views from scholars such as Luke, one of the Gospel writers and Peter, one of Jesus' disciples. The parable of the Rich man and Lazarus, in Luke 16, is a story in favour of immediate judgement. This is made somewhat clear where after the rich man goes to hell for treating the less fortunate (Lazarus) with negligence, he had wished to return back to earth to warn people. “For I have five brothers, let him warn them” Luke 16 verse 28. This however makes the key assumption that there were people still alive on earth to return to. From this, it can be inferred that people are judged and sent to heaven or hell immediately after death. Historically speaking the parable would have been taught by Jesus, therefore giving it extra validity as biblical evidence in support of the immediate judgement view point. On the other hand however, the story in being a parable, can be argued as being perhaps more symbolic as opposed to a realistically accurate account for what happens to sinners when they die. This would make the view significantly less persuasive. Another key account of potential evidence for immediate judgement lies in Luke 23:43. This chapter describes the death of Jesaus of Nazareth. Jesus says “truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise”. The use of the word “today” by Jesus, heavily suggests that the man he was conversing with would be in heaven with Jesus that day. This would mean that the man had been judged by God after death immediately. However this also opens up new possible explanations for the timing /dating of judgement. This is because the man beside Jesus had already been judged by God/Jesus and accepted into heaven (for humbling himself before God and admitting his sin) before he had died. Regardless, the evidence suggests that the judgement had occurred that day or beforehand. Despite previous evidence, the quote used; Luke 23:43 may be interpreted differently. In Hebrew, or at least in ancient Hebrew, there was no use of commas. This means that the meaning of the verse can be changed from “truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise” to “truly I tell you today, you will be in paradise”. The distinction is important because Jesus Christ could be saying how the man beside him will be in “paradise” with him that very day; or Jesus could be simply stating how it was that specific day to which he was telling him that he’s going to be with Jesus in “paradise”. This may not be suggesting in favour of immediate judgement, however it does not argue against it either. Therefore this argument against immediate judgement is ineffective. Despite all of this, there is key biblical evidence to suggest that there is a singular day of judgement for everyone at once. In 2 Peter 3:7 it states, “...the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgement and destruction of the ungodly”. The bible is very explicit in stating that there is a specific day for judgement, it is less so explicit in telling whether or not this day is for the individual or for a collective. The distinction between the two is, once again, important, seeming as if judgement were to happen immediately after death it would not make sense for everyone to be judged together as people die at different dates. On a different hand however, part of the verse where it states “and destruction of the ungodly” suggests that both the day of judgement and this so-called destruction both take place at a singular point in time for everyone to experience. In taking a deeper look at the verse 2 Peter 3:7 there are two very important things mentioned. The verse doesn’t exclusively mention judgement for those on earth but for the “heavens and earth”. This may in fact suggest that those of whom had already been judged and gone to “heaven” will be judged again. This point of view accepts both views that judgement can happen straight after death and at the end of time. This view aligns itself with scripture and cancels out any perceived contradictions. It is therefore a logical conclusion. Therefore the view that judgement takes place after death is most definitely convincing; especially seeming as it doesn’t entirely contradict the day of judgement that many christians believe God has planned for them at the end of time.

    You got 3 of the ethics statements write. 1. The 5 primary precepts are an important part of natural law. Discuss. 2. According to utilitarianism, a business should only focus on profit-making and nothing else. 3. To what extent does Kant rely on duty? Didn't do this one so I might've written it wrong. 4. In meta-ethics, the term good, has an objective factual basis. Discuss.

    hi, these were quite accurate! natural law (whether the 5 primary precepts are important), meta-ethics (whether the term “good” has an objective basis) & business (with utilitarianism) came up but it was focused on whether businesses should focus on making-profit and nothing else. the other question was about whether kant was too focused on duty - thank you for your predictions!

    Hi Amy! Just had a quick question about ethical naturalism. I understand that F.H Bradley & Phillipa Foot are main supporters in the theory. But I’m a bit confused on what Bradley means by our role in society showing good as a real thing? I also am wondering if Bradley and Foot are in support of each other or if Foot is saying something different to Bradley? thanks so much :)

      They are supporting the same argument just stating the same thing slightly differently

      Hi Imogen, hope your exam went well yesterday. Foot is just an extension of Bradley, so Bradley talks about facts and ethics whereas Foot adds in about people and their characteristics as well as ethics. Bradley means that you find evidence of ethics in society/ world to back up the ethical statement into a fact - hope that make sense :)

    For topics like sexual ethics and business ethics, if they were related to one theory in particular, would you break it down into parts of the theory or parts of the topic? like premarital extramarital and homosexuality, or the actual theory itself?

    • @sabrina-xm8mz
      @sabrina-xm8mz 16 днів тому

      i’m pretty sure if a question came up, something like “discuss how useful Kantian ethics is in regards to sexual ethics,” then you’d just need to talk about Kant’s views on the topic and evaluate them as being either good or bad. e.g., Kant is against premarital and extramarital sex. same for business ethics

      Either approach works well so it depends on what you are most comfortable with. I often find that whatever is mentioned first in the question is the structure of your essay so if it says NL and issues then NL is your structure and the issues are linked to this. Hope that makes sense :)

  • @Ava-ui1wk
    @Ava-ui1wk 16 днів тому

    last minute question, but if we got a general business ethics question, would we still be expected to make the focus on different ethical theories? or just talk more generally about business ethics and the people involved?

    • @sabrina-xm8mz
      @sabrina-xm8mz 16 днів тому

      you don’t really have to but if it helps to support your point, then bring them in, but make sure you mention scholars. like for the question “does globalisation encourage ethical action?” you could bring in how Milton Friedman says that businesses have no responsibility to behave ethically so it’s not a concern whether globalisation encourages action or not (that’s if you were arguing against, saying it doesn’t encourage ethical action).

      Hi Ava, answer the specific question they ask you. So if they ask a general on business that is what they are wanting. If you wish to bring in a normative approach, do so for evaluation and make it clear why they are relevant to your line of argument and the question.
